Accessible Parking spots - Ticket Violation costs to increase

Most recently discussed at the Sept 20, 2022 Whistler Council meeting was the subject of the ticket cost for parking violation in an accessible parking spot in Whistler. Jen Ford brought up the amendment to RAISE the ticket cost from $140 (then $300 if you don't pay within 7 days) to the highest maximum allowable to $500. The request was later amended to $300 (then $500 if you don't pay within 7 days). Accessibility and these visitors need these parking stalls when they need them! Jen Ford made a great point about that. She is on the Inclusion committee and she says this subject is often discussed at their meetings.

Whistler RMOW staff pointed out that in 2021 a total of 39 of these tickets were issued in Whistler. This is not a huge number but Councillor Ford's point to raise the cost was because of how important these stalls really are. I agree that these parking stalls are really important for an accessible and inclusive municipality.
